Nigeria’s Super Eagles have gained a major boost between the posts as FIFA officially approved the nationality switch of 24‑year‑old goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, making him eligible to represent the country at international level.
Okonkwo, who was born in London to Nigerian parents, had previously represented England at youth levels but has now opted to pledge his senior international future to Nigeria. The decision, confirmed by FIFA this week, clears the way for the talented shot‑stopper to be called up by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for upcoming fixtures.
The 24‑year‑old has been in fine form for Wrexham in the English Championship this season, recording 66 saves and five clean sheets in 21 appearances. His consistent performances have drawn attention from fans and analysts alike, with many viewing his inclusion as a timely reinforcement for Nigeria ahead of future competitions.
With Okonkwo now available for selection, the Super Eagles’ goalkeeping department looks set to benefit from increased competition and depth as preparations continue for major tournaments.
