Nigeria’s Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by Aminu Sule Lamido, son of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, against his conviction for failing to declare $40,000 in cash while departing the country and making a false declaration of foreign currency.

A unanimous five-member panel delivered the judgment on Friday, January 16, 2026, resolving all issues against the appellant and affirming the earlier decisions of the Court of Appeal in Kaduna and the Federal High Court in Kano.

The original conviction dates back to July 12, 2015, when the Federal High Court in Kano found Aminu (then 34) guilty on charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The court also ordered the forfeiture of 25% of the undeclared $40,000 to the Federal Government.

The Supreme Court held that the appeal lacked merit, upholding the lower courts’ rulings in full.
