Osborne Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has formally entered the race for the chairmanship of Ohaozara Local Government Area in the forthcoming Ebonyi State council elections.
Osborne was among the aspirants endorsed by Governor Francis Nwifuru as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for the local government polls across the state’s 13 LGAs.
The endorsement has generated mixed reactions among political observers, with Senator Umahi describing the governor’s decision as a mark of appreciation.
Accompanied by supporters and well-wishers, Osborne obtained the N30 million chairmanship nomination form at the APC secretariat in Abakaliki on Friday.
He, however, declined to speak with journalists when approached after the exercise.
The State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mr Francis Ori, who was present at the party secretariat, expressed confidence in Osborne’s capacity to lead the council effectively.
“He is a chip of the old block and will replicate his father’s wonders in Ebonyi as former governor and as minister in Nigeria.
“The people are solidly behind him and would further demonstrate such support at the polls.”
