Perr Schuurs and Torino have agreed to part ways with immediate effect, ending the Dutch defender’s stint in Italy after a long battle with serious knee injuries.

Torino announced on Friday that the club and Perr Schuurs have mutually agreed to terminate his contract, allowing the 26-year-old centre-back to continue his recovery away from Turin and explore new opportunities ahead of the summer transfer window. Schuurs, who joined Torino from Ajax in 2022, has not featured in a competitive match for the Granata since suffering a major cruciate ligament injury in October 2023, a setback that led to multiple surgeries and an extended period on the sidelines.

The defender has spent more than a year battling complications from the knee problem, undergoing at least two operations and enduring a protracted rehabilitation that ruled him out of the entire 2024–25 campaign. Recent updates indicated that he was edging closer to full fitness, but Torino’s decision to terminate the deal early  his contract was originally due to run until June 2026  gives Schuurs the freedom to focus fully on his recovery without club pressures and to negotiate with interested sides as a free agent once he proves his fitness.

Schuurs is expected to make the last steps of his recovery back home in the Netherlands, working with specialists to ensure his knee is ready for the demands of top-level football. Several clubs across Europe have previously monitored his situation, and if his rehabilitation continues to progress positively, the former Netherlands youth international could be an intriguing low-risk, high-upside option on the market this summer.
