Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has affirmed that she feels more at home in the APC than in any other party, as speculation intensifies over her interest in the Ogun State governorship race.
Speaking during an interview on Eagle7 Sports 103.7 FM, Iyabo Obasanjo confirmed that she has joined the All Progressives Congress, describing the ruling party as her “natural home” and stressing that she feels comfortable with its key actors. She explained that internal turmoil in her former platform, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and organisational issues in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) made the APC a more attractive option for her political comeback.
The former Ogun Central senator revealed that supporters had been quietly mobilising for her return to politics over the past two years, urging her to seek higher office rather than return to previous roles. While initial reports framed her intentions as mere speculation, she has now indicated that the only position that could bring her back into the political arena is the Ogun State governorship, effectively confirming long‑running rumours about her interest in the 2027 race.
Iyabo, who previously served as Ogun State Commissioner for Health before her tenure in the Senate, has been away from frontline politics for about 15 years, during which she focused on an academic career in public health in the United States. With her return to the APC in Ogun and her growing public profile, political watchers say her entry into the contest could reshape alignments within the ruling party as preparations build up toward the next governorship election.
