After sensing that he may be dropped ahead of the 2027 elections, Ikechukwu Emetu, the deputy governor of Abia State, mobilised elderly women and youths to stage a march against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as an attempt to impress his principal, Governor Alex Otti.
Ikechukwu Emetu, the controversial Deputy Governor of Abia State, is working hard to impress Governor Alex Otti in a bid to convince the governor ahead of 2027 after sensing a big disconnect between him and his people. Emetu has failed to show leadership as the Deputy Governor of Abia State outside his meddling in communal affairs, including quarrels between husband and wife.
Firstly, Emetu it was alleged that he was only picked as Deputy Governor for being a young Catholic. That is his only qualification: a young Catholic from Ohafia. That was why Otti dropped people like Chief Linus Iro, Elder Obinna Odum, and Prof. Uche Eme Uche.
He is obviously acting like someone who never believed he would be where he is today. He was alleged to have insulted the former Attorney General of Abia State, Chief Umeh Kalu, at a function in Abiriba. He also told Chief Umeh: “If you don’t have any respect for me, you must now respect me as the Deputy Governor of Abia State.”
He was again accused of leading the assault on a serving member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chief Kalu Mba Nwoke (Etiokwe). In fact, Etiokwe was thoroughly beaten, manhandled, disgraced, and locked up.
Again, Emetu insulted another prominent son of Ohafia, Etigwe Uwa, SAN. It was alleged that Emetu openly snubbed the learned silk by refusing a handshake twice at a public event at Elu Ohafia.
Emetu was at the centre of the assault meted out to a former councillor and PG of Okagwe Development Union, Umuahia Branch, Hon. Makiba. Makiba was openly beaten up, disgraced, and extorted by youths of Amaekpu community. Makiba’s wife openly accused the Deputy Governor. Instead of being remorseful, his boys released a press statement accusing the woman of infidelity in her marriage.
Again, the late Hon. Igwe Akuma Akwu, who was shot on the 2nd of January, 2026, cried openly to the entire state, accusing the Deputy Governor of harassment and intimidation before he was shot dead. His last voice was a note circulated across WhatsApp groups where he accused the Deputy Governor of orchestrating violence, division, intimidation, and harassment. No one listened to the young man before he was killed.
The same Abia Deputy Governor has been badly accused of fueling the crisis in Okon Aku, Ohafia.
These and many more have shown that Ikechukwu Emetu has lost popularity and the confidence of his people. The only thing left for him was to connive with one Sam Anya, who sponsored some youths to play politics with the Ohafia clan in a bid to cajole his boss, Alex Otti, to consider running with him once again after sensing he was going to be dropped. What Ikechukwu Emetu is doing is trying to prove to Otti that he is on ground. He did that by deceiving a few old women from his Amaekpu community that he was going to empower them at Government House, Umuahia. It was alleged that David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex and Sam Anya contributed money to transport them and gave another N1,000 as a thank-you for coming.
The real losers are Emetu and Sam Anya, who fell victim to the game played by Bourdex. Bourdex would be sipping his drink in Abiriba, laughing at them for their foolishness and for pitching their Ohafia community against other clans, especially the people of Igbere, where Orji Uzor Kalu comes from, while Bourdex’s Abiriba community continues to negotiate with all parties in Nigeria for more development to their place.
