President Bola Tinubu on Saturday received former Defence Minister, General Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), at the State House in Abuja.

The Presidency revealed this in a terse statement on Saturday.

Although details of the meeting were not immediately disclosed, Presidents have historically consulted Danjuma on matters of national importance, given his extensive experience in military affairs and his status as an elder statesman.

He served as Defence Minister in the first term of former President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2003.

General Danjuma, 87, is one of Nigeria’s most influential military and political figures.

He served as Chief of Army Staff from 1976 to 1979 under the military government of General Olusegun Obasanjo and later as Minister of Defence from 1999 to 2003 during Obasanjo’s civilian administration.

The Taraba State-born former military chief played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s political history, including the July 1966 counter-coup that brought General Yakubu Gowon to power.
