It was a night of firepower and supremacy battle in Malam Fatori, Borno State, as Nigerian troops wiped out 61 terrorists in a bloody battlefield clash.

Forces under Operation Hadin Kai, backed by the Nigerian Air Force, crushed a daring attack by suspected ISWAP fighters who stormed military positions with drones and ground assault.

But the terrorists met a brick wall.

Troops unleashed coordinated firepower, stopping the advance in its tracks and sending the insurgents fleeing after suffering devastating losses.

Sources said the attackers had attempted to infiltrate the base in a well-planned assault, but were overwhelmed by superior response from Nigerian forces.

A few soldiers were injured during the intense exchange, but have since been treated and stabilised.
