A middle-aged man, identified as Yakubu Adamu from Kumbi village in Kirfi Local Government of Bauchi state, has been taken into police custody for fatally stabbing his younger brother, Yayaji Abubakato, with the intention to inherit his motorcycle.
The Bauchi State Police Command disclosed this tragic incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Superintendent Ahmed Wakil, on Friday.
According to Wakil, the suspect admitted to the crime and confessed that he had been involved in motorcycle theft since 2020.
The police reported the incident as follows: “On October 13, at about 7:30 p.m., one Usman Mohammad, 38, of Gorondo Village via Alkaleri council, Bauchi State, reported a case at the Divisional Headquarters, Kirfi.
“He said on the same date at about 3:40 p.m., one Yakubu Adamu, 25, of Kumbi village via Alkaleri council, armed with a sharp knife, attacked his younger brother, Yayaji Abubakar, 25, of the same address.
“He robbed him of his red Bajaj motorcycle with registration number; 526-OG, the value of which is yet to be ascertained.
“The suspect used a knife to stab him several times, causing him serious injuries on his stomach and hands.
“Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives swiftly took action and transported the victim to General Hospital Alkaleri, where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
“Meanwhile, the perpetrator has been apprehended and is currently undergoing police interrogations.
“During the interrogation, the defendant admitted to the offense and disclosed that he had engaged in motorcycle theft since 2020 when he colluded with one Auwalu from the same area to steal a red Bajaj motorcycle.
“They sold it for N70,000 and shared the proceeds of the crime among themselves. The investigation is ongoing, and once completed, the suspect will be charged in court,” he stated.
