Panic and confusion swept through Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, late Monday night as suspected gunmen invaded students’ hostels, leaving residents scampering for safety in the dead of night.
Eyewitnesses said the armed attackers stormed off-campus hostels and moved from room to room, robbing students of valuables including mobile phones, laptops, and cash in a coordinated overnight operation.
The alarming incident was also confirmed by a student identified on X (formerly Twitter) as @yapperaholicc, who described the attack as part of a disturbing pattern in the area.
In a post shared around 3:01 am on Tuesday, the student wrote, “Armed men are attacking students in their hostels in EKSU at midnight!!!!!”
The user further alleged that the Phase 2 area of the university community has been repeatedly targeted, raising fears among students preparing for examinations.
“We are supposed to be reading for our exams! It has been going on for three days now!!! They are also robbing us. Please help us repost.”
Confirming the development, the Ekiti State Police Command spokesperson, Abutu Sunday, disclosed that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the attack, while investigations are ongoing.
“A suspect has been arrested in connection to the incident, and he is currently undergoing investigation, while necessary measures have been put in place to forestall reoccurrence,” he said.
Meanwhile, students have called on the state government and security agencies to urgently intensify patrols and strengthen security around the university community to curb further attacks and restore confidence.
