Governor Dapo Abiodun has rolled out a relief package for civil servants in Ogun State, approving a weekly day off and a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance to ease the burden of rising living costs.
The measures, which will run for three months starting from April 2026, were announced in a statement on Thursday by the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya.
The intervention comes amid growing pressure from high fuel prices and escalating transportation costs affecting workers across the state.
Onasanya stated, “Towards providing succour to the teeming workforce of Ogun State in light of the hike in the pump price of fuel in the country and its attendant impact on the cost of transportation and general standard of living, Gov Dapo Abiodun has graciously approved one day off duty in a week for workers in the state.
“This is in addition to the payment of ₦10,000.00 special transport allowance as palliatives for three months commencing from April, 2026.”
He noted that the initiative is designed not only to cushion economic hardship but also to boost morale and productivity within the state workforce.
However, the weekly day-off policy will not apply to workers on essential duties, including medical personnel, judicial staff, teachers, security agencies, and heads of departments. These categories will still receive the ₦10,000 transport allowance.
According to the Head of Service, accounting officers across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies will determine the specific day off for eligible workers to ensure that government operations continue without disruption.
Onasanya praised the governor for the timely intervention and urged workers to reciprocate the gesture with renewed commitment and improved efficiency in service delivery.
