Fresh fears engulfed the football world on Saturday after Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen suddenly collapsed during an international friendly between Denmark and Ukraine.

The incident happened in the second half of the encounter after Eriksen was seen clutching his chest before falling to the ground around the 65th minute.

Medical personnel and emergency responders immediately rushed onto the pitch as worried teammates and fans watched in panic.

Match officials later abandoned the game following the frightening scene.

The Danish Football Association later confirmed that Eriksen was conscious and stable after receiving urgent medical attention.

Team doctor Morten Boesen disclosed that the midfielder briefly lost consciousness but quickly regained awareness and was able to walk off the pitch on his own.

He also revealed that Eriksen’s implanted cardiac device functioned as expected during the emergency.

Boesen said the player would undergo further medical examinations to determine the exact cause of the collapse.

The incident instantly revived memories of Eriksen’s terrifying collapse during Denmark’s Euro 2021 clash against Finland, where he suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch and was revived through CPR and the use of a defibrillator.

Following that incident, Eriksen was fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (ICD) to help monitor and correct abnormal heart rhythms.

After leaving Inter Milan because of Italian regulations concerning players with ICD devices, the midfielder revived his career with Brentford before moving to Manchester United, where he won the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

Eriksen currently plays for German club VfL Wolfsburg after joining the Bundesliga side in 2025.

Medical officials say the football star remains under close observation while investigations continue into what triggered the latest health scare.
