The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), has celebrated a major academic milestone with the graduation of 3,061 students during its 38th Convocation Ceremony, including 86 students who earned First Class honours.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nnenna Nnannaya Oti, disclosed that the graduates were drawn from the university’s 10 academic schools, covering disciplines in Engineering, Medical Sciences, Agriculture, Information and Communication Technology, Environmental Sciences, Physical Sciences, Health Technology, Biological Sciences, Logistics and Innovation Technology, among others.
According to the breakdown released by the university, 1,226 students graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 1,606 obtained Second Class Lower Division, while 143 earned Third Class degrees. No graduate finished with a Pass grade.
Prof. Oti also highlighted significant achievements recorded under her administration, noting that FUTO’s national ranking improved remarkably from 34th to 11th position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
She further revealed that the number of fully accredited academic programmes increased from 45 to 66, while the institution’s admission quota expanded from 5,000 to 9,000 students.
The Vice-Chancellor described the achievements as evidence of the university’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation and global competitiveness, while urging the graduating students to uphold the values of integrity and professionalism as they pursue their future careers.
