The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has recorded a landslide victory in the Adamawa State local government elections, emerging victorious in all 20 Local Government Areas where results have so far been declared.

The election is yet to be concluded in Numan Local Government Area, where voting was postponed and is scheduled to take place today.

Polls were successfully conducted in the remaining 20 LGAs on Saturday, June 13.

The outcome has drawn attention given that Adamawa is currently governed by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, political observers note that preparations for the council elections had advanced significantly before Governor Ahmadu Fintiri defected from the PDP to the APC on February 27.

Although many of the governor’s loyalists followed him to the APC, several council chairmen who had earlier secured PDP endorsements for second-term bids remained with the opposition party and contested under its platform.

Other political parties participated in the elections but failed to make significant electoral gains against the PDP.

Reacting to the results, the PDP governorship candidate for the 2027 general election in Adamawa State, Chief Maurice Vunobolki, congratulated the newly elected council chairmen, describing the party’s sweeping victory as evidence of its enduring popularity among the people.

The elections were conducted by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC), which has now shifted its focus to completing the exercise in Numan LGA.

Among those elected is Jibril Ibrahim Jimeta, who secured victory as chairman of Yola North Local Government Area.

With the PDP already winning 20 out of the 21 local government areas, the party appears set for an overwhelming victory once the final result from Numan is determined.
