A 19-year-old boy, identified as Chiadikaobi Asadu, has reportedly died after being severely beaten by family members in Amoka village, Nru Nsukka, Enugu State, over allegations that he stole ₦17,000 from his father.
According to reports, the teenager was accused of taking the money to purchase a mobile phone. Family sources alleged that after an initial punishment by his father, some male relatives were instructed to further discipline him.
Witnesses claimed Chiadikaobi was tied to a tree and subjected to a prolonged beating before he was later released. He was reportedly asked to take a bath but was later found unconscious in the bathroom, where he was pronounced dead.
The incident has sparked outrage in the community amid allegations that efforts were made to conceal the circumstances surrounding his death through a hurried burial. Security agencies reportedly intervened following the development, while some individuals linked to the incident are said to have fled the area.
Residents described the deceased as a young man who had endured significant hardship since losing his mother to cancer several years ago.
As of the time of filing this report, the Enugu State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the matter. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.
