The Anambra State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in the investigation of the murder of a 33-year-old woman in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, with the arrest of two suspects allegedly linked to the crime.
The suspects, identified as Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara (26) and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe (20), were apprehended by detectives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, following months of intelligence-led investigations and digital forensic analysis.
The case began in March 2026 when the victim was reported missing by her family. Her lifeless body was later discovered in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in Oraifite and subsequently identified by relatives.
Police investigations led to the arrest of the suspects on June 6, with the principal suspect allegedly confessing to luring the victim to his residence before she was attacked and killed. Investigators said the suspects later disposed of the body in a nearby culvert.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the detectives for their professionalism and determination in cracking the case, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to justice and public safety.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. The arrest marks a significant development in a case that had remained unresolved for over three months, bringing renewed hope for justice for the victim’s family and the Oraifite community.
