The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State, Aliyu Bello, has said the exit of a former Inspector-General of Police, Abubakar Adamu, from the party to the Social Democratic Congress will not affect the chances of the party in the 2027 general elections.
The former IGP lost the APC governorship primary election to the senator representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, Ahmed Wadada, who emerged as the party’s candidate.
Speaking during a rally at the Angwan Gayam in the Gayam Electoral Ward of Lafia, the state capital, on Tuesday, the APC chairman urged supporters of the ex-IGP who are still in the party to accept the outcome of the primaries in good faith, stressing that power only comes from God.
Bello criticised the actions of some support groups that have been burning brooms, the symbol of the APC, as a sign of their rejection of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said the burning of brooms would not diminish the party’s relevance or its grassroots support in the state ahead of the polls.
The APC chairman said, “Brooms can be burnt, but the achievements and impact of our party in the state, as well as the ideology behind the broom, cannot be burnt.
“APC’s relevance in Nasarawa State is built on the massive infrastructural development, peaceful coexistence, job creation, youth empowerment and women inclusion delivered by Governor Abdullahi Sule.
