Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has intensified campaign efforts for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election scheduled for June 20, 2026, highlighting his administration’s development projects as key reasons voters should support the party.

Speaking at the party’s grand finale campaign rally, Mbah described APC candidate, Chief Asogwa, as the most qualified contender, citing his track record and alignment with the party’s development agenda.

The governor listed several ongoing projects in the senatorial district, including the dualisation of the Abakpa–Opi–Nsukka road, construction of over 100 primary healthcare centres, new road projects across multiple communities, and the establishment of the Ohebedim Aluminium Factory.

He also highlighted investments in education, noting the construction of 102 Smart Green Schools and increased funding to institutions such as the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), which he said is aimed at preparing students for future technological advancement.

Mbah urged party supporters to mobilise across communities, warning against complacency and calling for a strong turnout at the polls, which he described as a crucial test for the APC in the state.

Deputy Governor, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, added that the party’s candidate had been given clear legislative priorities, including securing federal infrastructure funding and improving budgets for tertiary institutions in the zone.

Speakers at the rally, including political leaders and traditional rulers, expressed confidence in APC’s chances, attributing growing support in Enugu North to the governor’s development record.

The APC candidate, Chief Asogwa, pledged to prioritise empowerment and effective representation if elected, while calling for unity and continued support from constituents.

The by-election is expected to be a key political test for parties in Enugu State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
