The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected allegations that it handed its 2027 governorship ticket to a non-member of the party, insisting that the primary election process was transparent and credible.

The clarification follows concerns raised by some party members who questioned the emergence of Eric Opah as the APC governorship candidate and threatened to withdraw support from the party if the outcome was not reviewed.

Addressing journalists in Umuahia, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, maintained that Opah was a bona fide member of the APC long before the primaries and dismissed claims that he was imposed on the party through irregular means.

According to Aguoru, Opah secured a decisive victory in the governorship primary, polling 125,977 votes against former Minister of State for Science and Technology, Henry Ikoh, who scored 5,905 votes.

The APC spokesperson further alleged that individuals criticising the outcome were being influenced by opposition interests seeking to create division within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

He insisted that the APC remains united and focused on strengthening its position in Abia State, expressing confidence in the party’s prospects in the forthcoming polls.

The development comes as political parties across the state continue preparations and internal realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
