The Kogi State Government says security operatives have successfully intercepted a large cache of arms and ammunition allegedly meant for criminal groups planning retaliatory attacks within the state.

According to the government, the operation was carried out through coordinated intelligence efforts involving local security operatives, the Hybrid Forces under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army.

Authorities revealed that intelligence tracking led to the identification of a Golf 2 vehicle used in transporting the weapons. Following weeks of surveillance and inter-agency collaboration, three suspects were arrested in Sokoto State, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the arms trafficking network.

The intercepted items include two AK-47 rifles, several magazines, 67 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two pistols, 12 rounds of pistol ammunition, military uniforms, and the suspected operational vehicle, which was recovered in Kabba, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area.

The government stated that the weapons were reportedly intended to re-arm criminal elements following recent security setbacks, including the killing of a suspected bandit leader during an attempted abduction of students at Government Secondary School, Iluke-Bunu, earlier in June 2026.

Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, described the operation as a success of intelligence-led policing, commending the Office of the National Security Adviser, led by Nuhu Ribadu, President Bola Tinubu, the Sokoto State Government, and other security stakeholders for their cooperation.

He assured residents that security surveillance across Kogi State has been strengthened and urged citizens to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
