As Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s protracted ill health continues to affect Ondo State’s governance, a startling revelation claims that certain opportunistic officials within the administration now sign documents in the ailing governor’s name.
This revelation surfaced during an appearance by Kayode Ajulo (SAN) on Arise Television’s Morning Show programme on Monday, which was monitored by MUK TV.
Ajulo, Principal Partner of Kayode Ajulo & Co. Castle of Law, emphasized that while Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa couldn’t constitutionally take over, some officials were signing approvals purportedly on behalf of the governor, creating discrepancies when compared to the governor’s decisions when he was in good health.
He asserted, “I have it on good authority as a lawyer. Some of the commissioners, about five of them, sent memos to the governor, and they all returned with approval.
“Going through the approval compared to what the governor had approved when he was hail and hearty, there are notable disparities in them.
“The Police and Administration of Justice Act has made it clear that there can be private investigators who have been contacted because of the issue, and their results are so damning. In fact, EFCC needs to visit Ondo State to ask some questions.
“The purported signature is not from the governor. It is so apparent.”
The lawyer urged for the invocation of the doctrine of necessity to allow the deputy governor to assume power temporarily, highlighting the presumption of the governor’s incapacity.
Ajulo also stressed the urgency for transparency regarding the missing N7.5 billion in the state and emphasized the need for the governor to address the public about his health condition.
This latest revelation means that the political impasse in the Sunshine State may not be over despite the recent intervention of President Bola Tinubu.
Recall that the president had brokered a peace between the warring parties over the leadership tussle, and instructed Aiyedatiwa to maintain the status quo.
