The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Anambra State Directorate, and Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, have agreed to strengthen collaboration on value re-orientation programmes aimed at promoting responsible citizenship and addressing moral decline among young people.
The partnership was highlighted during a courtesy visit by the Anambra State Director of NOA, Barr. Ifeoma Chijioke, to the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Stanley Ugbochukwu Ayaehie.
Speaking during the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor commended the agency’s efforts in nation-building and approved the implementation of value re-orientation programmes within the university. He also granted the agency access to the institution’s radio platform to promote its activities and pledged support for engaging students during orientation programmes.
Barr. Chijioke expressed concern over the increasing cases of cybercrime, internet fraud, cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse and other social vices among youths, stressing the need for renewed efforts to rebuild moral values in society.
She noted that despite Nigeria’s abundant human and natural resources, the country continues to face challenges linked to the erosion of core values such as integrity, patriotism, discipline, social justice and dignity of labour.
According to her, the partnership with the university is part of efforts to instill positive values in young people and encourage responsible behaviour that will contribute to national development.
Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to working together to promote ethical leadership, civic responsibility and value-based education among students and residents of Anambra State.
