The Imo State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on kidnapping with the deployment of surveillance drones and heavily armed tactical operatives in a major operation targeting criminal hideouts in forests across the state.

The intelligence-led operation, carried out over the weekend, focused on the Nekede, Ihiagwa and Agbala axis of Owerri West and Owerri North Local Government Areas. The exercise involved police tactical teams working alongside local vigilante groups to flush out suspected kidnappers believed to be operating from remote forest camps.

According to the Command, the operation was launched in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police to dismantle criminal networks, destroy their camps and prevent kidnappers from using forested areas as safe havens.

A major breakthrough was recorded during the operation with the rescue of an injured kidnap victim, identified as Chinonaobi Uchegbulam from Ubaha Orodo, who was found inside one of the suspected criminal camps.

The victim was immediately evacuated to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be responding positively.

The deployment of surveillance drones marks a significant boost to security operations in Imo State, enabling operatives to monitor difficult terrains, gather real-time intelligence and locate criminal hideouts with greater accuracy.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations to rid the state of criminal elements and enhance public safety.

Residents have welcomed the operation, expressing optimism that the intensified security measures will further weaken kidnapping syndicates and restore confidence in the safety of communities across Imo State.
