A Magistrate Court sitting in Owerri, Imo State, has remanded a 28-year-old suspect, Uzochukwu Ikenna Wisdom, over allegations of sexual extortion and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images and videos of women on social media platforms.

The suspect is accused of secretly recording private and intimate moments with several women and allegedly using the recordings to threaten or blackmail them whenever disagreements arose in their relationships.

According to reports, the case came to light after the suspect allegedly shared explicit content involving a woman he had dated for about two years on Facebook and TikTok, with investigators further alleging that he intended to sell the material to adult websites.

During investigations, police reportedly recovered additional intimate videos believed to involve several other women, who are now considered potential victims in the ongoing case.

The suspect was subsequently arraigned before the Magistrate Court, which ordered his remand pending further legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, a civil society organisation, Sisters With a Goal Initiative, in collaboration with other advocates, disclosed that it is providing support to one of the alleged victims, who has experienced severe emotional distress following the incident.

The organisation called for justice for victims of technology-facilitated abuse and urged anyone affected by similar acts to report such cases to law enforcement agencies.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
