A fire outbreak has destroyed part of a cosmetics manufacturing company in Nkwelle, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, leaving goods and equipment worth several millions of naira damaged.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, affected sections of the factory, including production equipment, raw materials, testing machines and other valuable property.

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded.

Eyewitnesses said the fire reportedly started from a faulty factory machine before rapidly spreading through part of the facility. Thick smoke was seen billowing from the complex as the blaze raged for several minutes before firefighters arrived.

According to residents, personnel of the Anambra State Fire Service responded to the emergency and successfully prevented the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings.

Confirming the incident, the Head of Media and Publicity of the Anambra State Fire Service, Chukwudi Chiketa, said the agency received a distress call at 4:12 p.m. on Saturday and immediately deployed firefighters and equipment to the scene.

He disclosed that the fire crew arrived at the factory at 4:40 p.m. and battled the blaze until it was completely brought under control, with the operation ending at about 6:50 p.m.

According to Chiketa, the swift response and professionalism of the firefighters helped contain the inferno, significantly reducing the extent of the damage and preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.

Preliminary investigations by the Fire Service indicate that the incident was caused by a faulty factory machine.

Authorities have assured the public that further investigations will be conducted to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fire.
