A support group of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, the Anyi Ga’ Emeya Movement, has declared that the people of the state are more interested in quality leadership and good governance than political power rotation.
In a statement issued in Abakaliki, the group’s spokesperson, Moses Idika, said the governorship ambition of the PDP candidate for the February 6, 2027 governorship election, Dr. Ifeanyichukwuma Odii, is driven by a commitment to improve governance and enhance the welfare of Ebonyi residents.
The group was reacting to comments by the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebe, on the issue of power rotation in the state.
According to the group, while acknowledging the historical background of Ebonyi State and the principle of power rotation, the state’s greatest need is visionary leadership capable of delivering development, prosperity and improved living standards.
The Anyi Ga’ Emeya Movement maintained that Dr. Odii’s emergence as the PDP governorship candidate is based on competence and a clear development agenda rather than ethnic or rotational considerations.
The group also challenged the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru to campaign for re-election based on measurable achievements, urging the state government to present verifiable evidence of its performance since assuming office in 2023.
It specifically called on the Commissioner for Information to highlight 10 key achievements of the current administration that would justify another mandate in the 2027 governorship election.
The group further noted that Ebonyi’s democratic history has remained competitive since 1999, with political parties presenting candidates from different parts of the state irrespective of their zones of origin.
