The Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Professor Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, has encouraged students to report cases of extortion, harassment and intimidation without fear, assuring them of the university’s protection irrespective of those involved.

Professor Akanwa gave the assurance while receiving members of the St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy Council on a courtesy visit to her office. She stressed that the university remains committed to providing a safe and conducive learning environment where students can freely report misconduct without the fear of victimisation.

The Vice-Chancellor urged leaders of the Nigerian Federation of Catholic Students (NFCS) to encourage their colleagues to speak out against all forms of abuse, emphasizing that anyone found culpable, whether a staff member or student, would be held accountable in accordance with university regulations.

She also commended religious organisations on campus for their role in promoting discipline, moral values and responsible conduct among students, describing faith-based groups as vital partners in building a peaceful academic community.

Earlier, the Chaplain of St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy, Reverend Father Leo Ehiemere, and the President of the Chaplaincy Council, Professor Damian Asawalam, congratulated Professor Akanwa on her leadership and pledged the council’s continued support for the university’s efforts to promote moral excellence, unity and academic development.
