Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have rescued an unidentified middle-aged man who was found unconscious by the roadside in Awka, with preliminary findings suggesting he may have been under the influence of hard drugs.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement, saying the victim was discovered by officers attached to the B Division during a routine patrol along Oby Okoli Avenue, near the UNIZIK Temporary Site, Awka, on July 15.

According to the police, the man was found lying unconscious without any visible signs of injury or physical assault.

The operatives immediately evacuated him to the Police Hospital in Awka, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

SP Ikenga said a search conducted on the victim did not yield any means of identification or mobile phone that could assist in tracing his family or relatives.

He added that while initial findings indicate the man may have been under the influence of hard drugs, investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish his identity.

The Police Command said the case underscores the growing dangers of substance abuse and drug addiction, particularly among young people.

It reaffirmed its commitment to the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, aimed at combating drug abuse, cultism and related crimes through public awareness, stakeholder collaboration and proactive policing across Anambra State.
