The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, has recorded significant improvements in academic, administrative and infrastructural development under the leadership of its Rector, Professor Gozie Sunday Ogbodo.
Since assuming office in November 2024, Professor Ogbodo has embarked on a series of reforms aimed at repositioning the institution as a centre of excellence in technical and vocational education.
The reforms include the accreditation of academic programmes, digitisation of institutional records, renovation of hostels, staff quarters and academic buildings, as well as strengthened partnerships with industry to enhance students’ practical skills and entrepreneurship.
The administration has also prioritised staff welfare, improved campus security, environmental sanitation and the overall learning environment, while promoting transparency, accountability and innovation across the institution.
Academically, the rector has introduced measures to strengthen quality assurance, research and practical education, with emphasis on producing graduates equipped with skills that meet the demands of the modern labour market.
Student welfare has equally received attention through continuous engagement with students aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence, responsible leadership and academic excellence.
The institution has also witnessed renewed collaboration with alumni, government agencies, development partners and the private sector, resulting in increased support for institutional development.
Major events such as the inaugural Alumni Homecoming and Founders’ Day celebrations have further strengthened the relationship between the institution and its alumni, while showcasing IMT’s renewed commitment to excellence.
Professor Ogbodo, a renowned legal scholar and administrator, holds degrees in law from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, the Nigerian Law School and Golden Gate University, California, United States. He has served in several academic and leadership positions in Nigeria and abroad and has published extensively in the fields of environmental law, international law, human rights and public policy.
Observers say the ongoing reforms have restored confidence among staff, students and stakeholders, positioning the institution for greater competitiveness within Nigeria’s higher education sector.
The management reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the transformation agenda through continued investment in infrastructure, technology, innovation and human capital development to prepare students for global opportunities.
