The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Victor Umeh, has called on Christians, particularly Catholics, to uphold strong moral values, strengthen family life and contribute meaningfully to nation building.
Senator Umeh made the call during an interactive session between the Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria and the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Akwaeze, in Anambra State.
Addressing the gathering, the lawmaker commended Bishop Ezeokafor for his spiritual leadership and continued advocacy for good governance, while also appreciating the efforts of the clergy, religious and lay faithful in promoting the growth of the Awka Diocese.
He described the family as the foundation of a healthy society and urged parents to work closely with the Church in raising disciplined, responsible and patriotic children capable of contributing positively to society.
Senator Umeh also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the Church, promoting justice and equity, and providing effective representation for the people of Anambra Central in the National Assembly.
Participants at the event commended the senator for his contributions to education and community development across the senatorial district. They cited his educational support initiatives, including scholarships for university students, as well as infrastructural projects such as the construction of an administrative block at Regina Caeli Hospital in Awka.
In his remarks, Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor offered prayers for Senator Umeh and his family and encouraged citizens to support leaders who demonstrate integrity, competence and strong moral character.
The interactive session provided an opportunity for dialogue between the Church and the laity on faith, leadership, family values and the role of Christians in promoting peace, good governance and national development.
