A pro-Kwankwaso political group, the Kwankwaso National Network (KNN), South-East Zone, has endorsed a proposed Peter Obi–Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket for the 2027 general election, describing the alliance as a formidable opposition force capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing a press conference in Umuahia, Abia State, the South-East Zonal Coordinator of KNN, Dr. Ukpai Iro Ukpai, said the group remains committed to promoting democratic participation, peaceful political engagement and issue-based politics across Nigeria.
According to him, the proposed alliance between Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso represents a strategic effort to unite opposition forces and provide Nigerians with an alternative platform focused on good governance, national unity and inclusive development.
Dr. Ukpai commended Senator Kwankwaso for what he described as his willingness to embrace a broader political alliance, noting that the collaboration between the Obedient Movement and the Kwankwasiyya Movement could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group also praised supporters and civil society organisations for their mobilisation efforts during the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, noting that the South-East recorded over 830,000 new registered voters, ranking among the highest-performing geopolitical zones in the country.
KNN stressed the need for credible elections, warning against electoral malpractice and insisting that every legitimate vote must count during the 2027 general election.
The group also rejected claims that South-East governors had unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, arguing that such a position does not reflect the views of the majority of people in the region.
Expressing concern over the nation’s economic challenges, Dr. Ukpai maintained that the proposed Obi–Kwankwaso alliance offers a credible alternative capable of addressing Nigeria’s economic and governance challenges through effective leadership and reforms.
He reaffirmed the group’s commitment to democratic processes and called on Nigerians to actively participate in shaping the country’s future through peaceful and lawful political engagement.
