The Anambra State Government has intensified its enforcement of physical planning regulations, demolishing shanties and illegal structures in parts of Ozubulu and Nnewi.
The demolition exercises, carried out on Saturday, August 8, 2026, by officials of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, targeted unauthorised structures obstructing public spaces and violating approved development standards.
In Ozubulu, the ministry demolished shanties and other illegal structures within the perimeter of the Joint Hospital as part of efforts to protect government facilities and prevent unauthorised development.
The ministry warned that structures erected without the necessary approvals or on land reserved for public use would not be permitted to remain.
The enforcement operation was also carried out in Nnewi under the ministry’s Operation Zero Shanties initiative, where shanties and illegal structures along the Traffic Light axis were removed.
According to the ministry, the exercise was aimed at reclaiming public spaces, restoring order and ensuring that physical developments conform to approved planning regulations.
The latest demolitions form part of the Anambra State Government’s broader urban renewal and physical planning enforcement programme across the state.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to creating a cleaner, safer and more organised urban environment, urging property owners, developers and businesses to comply with planning and building regulations to avoid enforcement action.
