The Anambra State Government has unveiled plans to deepen digital governance and integrate more small and medium-sized enterprises into the formal digital economy by 2030.

The initiative, being implemented by the Anambra State ICT Agency under its “2.0” strategy, is expected to move the state beyond basic digital infrastructure towards technology-driven public service delivery, business formalisation and economic development.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, disclosed the plans during a virtual press conference.

Agbata said the government would expand the use of the OneGov platform, allowing residents and businesses to access and process more government services online without the need for repeated visits to government offices.

According to him, the agency is also transforming government websites from platforms that merely provide information into transactional portals where citizens can initiate and complete government processes digitally.

He said websites of Ministries, Departments and Agencies would be developed and automated to improve service delivery, reduce bureaucratic delays and make government operations more transparent and efficient.

Under the new system, residents would be able to submit applications, make requests and carry out other government-related transactions online, while physical visits would only be required where verification or other in-person procedures are necessary.

Agbata said the growing adoption of the platform demonstrated residents’ willingness to embrace digital government services.

He disclosed that the platform recorded approximately 14,000 visits between July 9 and July 29, despite limited publicity, representing an average of about 700 visits daily.

The ICT Agency said the digital transformation programme is expected to improve citizens’ access to government, strengthen public administration and create a more efficient environment for businesses across Anambra State.
