Residents of Ukpo in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State have embraced HIV testing and counselling as the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency, ANSACA, took its awareness campaign and essential health services to the community.

The outreach, held on August 22 at the palace of Igwe R.C. Eze, Dunukofia VI, was organised by ANSACA in partnership with the Walter and Chioma Obi Foundation.

The programme provided residents with HIV testing, counselling and basic healthcare services, while sensitising the community on HIV prevention, treatment and the importance of knowing their status.

The agency said the initiative formed part of its grassroots strategy to make HIV services more accessible to residents, particularly those in communities where access to healthcare services may be limited.

ANSACA also commended Mr. Walter Chinedu Obi and his wife, Mrs. Chioma Obi, for their support for healthcare and community development initiatives.

The agency further appreciated the Anambra State Government for providing an enabling environment for partnerships aimed at improving healthcare delivery across the state.

ANSACA urged residents to make regular HIV testing a priority, seek accurate information on prevention and treatment, and join efforts to reduce the stigma associated with HIV.

The agency stressed that early testing and access to appropriate treatment remain critical to improving the quality of life of people living with HIV and preventing further transmission.
