The Abia State Government has cancelled the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2026, across the state.
The cancellation was announced in a statement authorised by the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna.
With the cancellation, there will be no statewide movement restriction on Saturday, allowing residents to travel freely and engage in their normal social and economic activities across the state.
However, the Ministry of Environment has urged residents to continue taking responsibility for the cleanliness of their immediate surroundings.
Residents have been encouraged to clean their homes, offices, shops, business premises and other environments despite the cancellation of the compulsory statewide exercise.
The ministry stressed that maintaining a clean environment remains essential to public health, safety and the overall wellbeing of communities.
The state government therefore advised residents to sustain good environmental hygiene practices even in the absence of the monthly sanitation exercise.
In summary, there will be no compulsory statewide environmental sanitation exercise or movement restriction in Abia State on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
