The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Alumni Association, NAUAA, has held its second edition of the Converge 2.0 event in Awka, Anambra State, bringing together graduates of the institution from Nigeria and the diaspora.
The event, held on Friday, August 28, 2026, was chaired by Anambra South Senatorial Aspirant and Chairman of Seahorse Lubricant Industries Limited, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, who donated ₦50 million to support alumni projects and development initiatives at the university.
The donation, which was transferred during the event, according to the organisers, is expected to support projects aimed at advancing the development of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
Speaking at the gathering, Chief Onunkwo said his contribution was a way of giving back to an institution that has produced leaders and professionals across different sectors.
He reiterated his commitment to education and human capital development, stressing that investing in education remains critical to the progress of society.
The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Stanley Ugochukwu Anyaehie, who attended the event, commended Chief Onunkwo for the gesture.
Professor Anyaehie noted that the strength and reputation of a university are reflected in the quality and contributions of its alumni, assuring that the university management would continue to collaborate with the alumni association to translate such contributions into meaningful development.
The Global President of NAUAA, Professor Ikechukwu Innocent Umeh, also appreciated Chief Onunkwo and other alumni members for their support and commitment to the growth of the institution.
Professor Umeh called for sustained unity and collective responsibility among members, saying the success of Converge 2.0 demonstrates the strong goodwill and commitment within the UNIZIK alumni community.
The event was attended by other dignitaries, including the Chairman of the Converge 2.0 Committee, Professor Everistus Afiadigwe; Co-Chairman, Comrade Obi Okeke; Secretary, Dr. Kobimdi Umeh; and the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD.
Chapter executives of the alumni association and other invited guests were also present at the gathering.
