The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old boy over his alleged involvement in a robbery operation at a hotel in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Udochukwu Nwankwo, was reportedly arrested in the early hours of Wednesday by operatives of the B Division, Amansea, during a routine patrol.
According to the Police Command, officers recovered a metallic lighter designed to resemble a pistol, which the suspect allegedly used to intimidate victims during robbery operations.
The Command said preliminary investigations indicated that the teenager allegedly operated with two other suspects who are currently at large.
Police alleged that the suspects attacked a hotel guest in the Amansea area and made away with her mobile phone and other personal belongings.
The teenager reportedly confessed during interrogation to using the pistol-shaped lighter to frighten victims into surrendering their valuables.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said investigation into the incident is ongoing, while detectives have intensified efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover the stolen items.
The Command assured that anyone found culpable would be made to face the law, as investigations continue.
