The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Enugu State has commenced its campaign for the September 26 local government elections, expressing confidence in victory across Udenu, Igbo Eze North and Igbo Eze South Local Government Areas.
The campaign rallies, held at the headquarters of the three councils, attracted party leaders, traditional rulers, market and trade union representatives, women, youths and other supporters.
Addressing supporters, the APC State Chairman, Dr Martin Chukwunweike, presented party flags to the chairmanship and councillorship candidates and urged residents to vote for the party at the polls.
Chukwunweike said the support recorded for the APC during the June 20 Enugu North Senatorial District by-election had strengthened the party’s confidence ahead of the council elections.
He described the by-election as a test of the party’s popularity in the area, expressing optimism that voters would once again support APC candidates.
The APC chairman also called on residents to support Governor Peter Mbah’s bid for a second term, citing the administration’s performance, while urging support for President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Senator Ikeje Asogwa, representing Enugu North Senatorial District, also urged residents of the three LGAs to replicate their support for the APC in the forthcoming council elections.
He appealed to voters to support Innocent Ezeoha for Udenu, Chris Onyekachi Simon for Igbo Eze North and Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze for Igbo Eze South.
Also speaking, members of the National Assembly representing the affected constituencies, Dennis Agbo and Chidi Obeta, canvassed support for the APC candidates, citing development projects under the Mbah administration and the performance of the party’s candidates.
The APC Southeast Zonal Woman Leader, Dr Oby Aji, expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, saying the outcome of the election would reflect the support witnessed at the rallies.
At Udenu, the council chairman, Aka Eze Aka, said the LGA remained united behind the APC and expressed a target of securing more than 90 percent of the votes for the party.
Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Enyinnaya Ogbonna, also attributed the turnout at the rally to support for the Mbah administration and its development programmes.
The three chairmanship candidates said they had commenced grassroots mobilisation across their respective LGAs and expressed confidence in emerging victorious at the polls.
Speaking through Ezeoha, the candidates said their campaigns had focused on engaging voters and explaining their plans, describing the turnout at the rallies as an indication of growing grassroots support for the APC.
