Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has held its 129th Inaugural Lecture, with experts and members of the university community examining innovative approaches to improving mathematics teaching and learning outcomes.
The lecture, titled “Unmasking the Secrets of Effective Mathematics Instruction for Improved Learning Outcomes,” was delivered by Professor Ebele Chinelo Okigbo, a Professor of Mathematics Education and Dean of the Faculty of Education.
Prof. Okigbo, who is a Fellow of the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria, FSTAN, a Member of the Mathematics Teachers Association of Nigeria, MSTAN, a Member of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria, MMAN, and a Registered Teacher with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, R-TRCN, used the lecture to examine approaches capable of making mathematics instruction more effective and improving students’ learning outcomes.
The lecture was held at the UNIZIK ASUU Secretariat and chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie.
The event brought together members of the university community to explore contemporary strategies for effective mathematics instruction and ways of addressing challenges associated with mathematics teaching and learning.
The 129th Inaugural Lecture forms part of the university’s academic tradition of providing a platform for professors and scholars to share research findings, professional expertise and innovative ideas that can contribute to educational development and wider societal advancement.
