The Kano State Hisbah Board, in a dramatic midnight raid, intercepted a truck transporting an astounding 24,000 bottles of various alcoholic drinks, marking a significant blow against smugglers in the region.

Alhaji Abba Sufi, the Director General of the board, revealed this startling revelation at the board’s headquarters on Wednesday, The Punch reports.

The truck was confiscated from smugglers along Zaria Road during a daring operation conducted by the Hisbah personnel.

“The truck containing over 24,000 bottles of assorted alcoholic beverages was confiscated from smugglers along Zaria Road at midnight,” Sufi announced.

He commended the vigilance and proactive measures taken by the Hisbah operatives to enforce the state’s zero-tolerance policy against the smuggling of alcohol and other intoxicants through the state’s neighboring borders.

Applauding the collaborative efforts, Sufi acknowledged the critical role played by stakeholders in combatting the illicit trade of alcohol, aligning with the state’s adherence to Sharia law.

Addressing the situation, Fu’ad Dorayi, the acting Assistant Commander General of the Intelligent Crimes Dispatch Unit of the board, revealed the arrest of the truck driver and two accomplices in the operation.

Expressing gratitude for the support received, Dorayi urged citizens to report any suspicious vehicles transporting prohibited items along key routes like Kano/Zaria Road, Kano-Gwarzo-Dayi Road, Kano-Katsina Road, Kano-Maiduguri Road, and Kano-Hadejia Road.
