The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, Dr. Ifeanyi-Chukwuma Odii, has outlined plans to reposition the state’s healthcare, education and agricultural sectors if elected governor in the February 6, 2027 governorship election.
Odii made the pledge while addressing party faithful and stakeholders at a meeting in Abakaliki on Thursday, September 17, 2026, where he also promised to pursue what he described as inclusive and issues-based governance.
The PDP candidate said his campaign would focus on policies and development rather than hate, intimidation or violence, urging supporters to maintain peace throughout the electoral process.
He argued that the affairs of Ebonyi State should be driven by the interests of its people, questioning why a limited number of individuals should determine the direction of the state.
Odii said his proposed administration would prioritise human capital development and economic growth, with particular attention to education, healthcare, agriculture, youth development and industrialisation.
Drawing from his development blueprint, A Promise of Possibility, he said his vision includes transforming Ebonyi into what he described as an inclusive, industrialised, innovation-driven and investment-ready economy.
Among the proposals contained in his agenda are free and compulsory education from primary to secondary school, as well as free tertiary education for Ebonyi indigenes studying medicine, specialised sciences and critical technology-related courses.
In agriculture, Odii has proposed an Agro-Industrial Park focused on crops including rice, cassava and yam, alongside measures aimed at improving farmers’ incomes and expanding agricultural value chains.
He also pledged to improve access to affordable healthcare across the state’s 13 local government areas and create opportunities for young people through employment, entrepreneurship and skills development.
The PDP candidate also appealed for peaceful political participation, stressing that no political ambition should be pursued at the expense of citizens’ lives.
He alleged that poverty and hunger had been used as tools of political control, particularly among youths, and called for greater opportunities that would enable young people to build sustainable livelihoods.
Odii further promised that his proposed administration would promote accountable governance, merit-based recruitment, transparency in public finances, infrastructure development and investment.
He said the ultimate objective of his blueprint was to create what he described as shared prosperity and greater opportunities for citizens and communities across Ebonyi State.
The February 6, 2027 governorship election is expected to feature campaigns from candidates and political parties presenting competing programmes and policy proposals to voters across the state.
