Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has warned socio-cultural and socio-political groups against using their platforms to promote tribalism, ethnic rivalry and division, threatening to disband groups found violating the directive.
Governor Eno gave the warning during a special interdenominational thanksgiving service in Uyo to mark the state’s 39th anniversary.
He urged Akwa Ibom people to prioritise the state’s unity and development over political, ethnic or religious differences, stressing that political offices are temporary while the state remains.
“Political differences must never become personal hatred, ethnic differences must never become division, and religious differences must never become hostility.”
The governor also urged political actors to focus on issues rather than allegations ahead of the forthcoming elections, while calling on socio-cultural groups to use their platforms to promote peace, cooperation and development.
The anniversary celebration, themed “Preparation of Akwa Ibom for the Season of Milk and Honey with Thanksgiving,” also featured prayers, worship and thanksgiving.
As Akwa Ibom moves towards its 40th anniversary, Governor Eno called for continued unity and responsible participation from citizens and political stakeholders.
