The Anambra East Local Government Area has imposed a night time curfew on Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities amid prevailing security concerns.
The directive, issued by the Office of the Mayor of Anambra East Local Government Area, takes effect from Thursday, October 1, 2026, and will run daily from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. until further notice.
According to the official notice, the measure is aimed at protecting lives and property, maintaining public order and enhancing the safety of residents in the affected communities.
Residents, business owners and members of the public in Aguleri and Umuoba Anam have been directed to remain indoors during the curfew hours.
The notice also prohibits non-essential movements and public gatherings throughout the restricted period.
However, authorised security personnel and individuals responding to genuine emergencies are exempted, subject to appropriate security authorisation.
Traditional rulers, Presidents General, community leaders, youth organisations and other relevant stakeholders have been urged to ensure that the directive is widely communicated and complied with across the affected communities.
The local government administration appealed to residents to remain calm, law-abiding and cooperative with security agencies while efforts continue to address the security situation and restore lasting peace.
The authority said further updates would be communicated as necessary, including any decision to suspend or modify the curfew.
