The Enugu State chapter of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN) has commenced a seven day warning strike over what it described as unresolved welfare, remuneration and professional concerns affecting law officers in the state.

The strike began on Friday, October 2, 2026, following what the association said was the government’s failure to address outstanding demands despite prolonged engagements.

The association announced the industrial action in a statement signed by its State Chairman, K.P. Onyia, and Secretary, M.O. Onyeze, in Enugu.

Among its demands is the full harmonisation of remuneration for law officers, including magistrates, as well as payment of members’ professional practising fees and annual Bar conference fees.

The association is also demanding the payment and restoration of various allowances and professional fees, including the restoration and payment of arrears relating to transportation, hazard and wardrobe allowances.

As part of the strike directive, the association instructed law officers not to carry out official duties during the seven-day period.

It specifically directed members in Abuja and Lagos liaison offices, Government House and ministries, departments and agencies to refrain from attending court, visiting correctional centres, police stations or other law enforcement agencies in furtherance of official duties.

The association said members should also refrain from conducting government business in line with its collective resolution.

LOAN expressed hope that the seven-day warning strike would prompt the relevant authorities to address the outstanding demands and prevent the dispute from escalating into further industrial action.

The development could affect the participation of state law officers in court proceedings and other official legal duties during the period of the warning strike
