Nigeria’s annual wheat production has risen from about 120,000 metric tonnes to 420,000 metric tonnes following the implementation of the National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro-Pocket, NAGS-AP.
The Federal Government disclosed this as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and reduce the country’s dependence on imported wheat.
Prof. Ademola Adenle, Senior Special Adviser on Agriculture and Innovation to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, said the increase represents a 250 percent rise from the reported baseline.
Adenle said the development reflects the impact of targeted agricultural interventions aimed at supporting farmers, improving access to inputs and increasing domestic food production.
The government says continued investment in agricultural programmes remains critical to strengthening food security, reducing import dependence and improving the livelihoods of farmers across the country.
