Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 has become a major focus of his political activities.
Wike made the statement on Monday during town hall meetings with the Rumueme and Apara kingdoms in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he urged residents to support Tinubu at the polls.
The former Rivers State governor said he was committed to helping the President secure a second term, expressing confidence that Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid would be easier than his 2023 campaign.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s re-election. When I am eating, I think about the president’s re-election. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s re-election,” Wike said.
He appealed to Rivers residents to set aside political sentiments and support Tinubu, citing what he described as the President’s recognition of the state through developmental projects and appointments of Rivers indigenes into key positions.
“Let us forget sentiment and vote for the person who has recognised the people of Rivers State with dividends of democracy and with several appointments.
“I know the re-election of Tinubu in 2027 will be easier than that of 2023. We should appreciate Tinubu and ensure he gets a massive number of votes. We can do it.”
Wike also credited the Tinubu administration with bringing developments to Rivers State and appointing several indigenes of the state to strategic positions in government.
The FCT minister subsequently turned his attention to opposition figures, criticising former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, who are associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Wike questioned their ability to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 election and claimed the ADC would not secure the constitutionally required 25 per cent of votes in Rivers State.
He also criticised Peter Obi and other opposition politicians, describing them as “unelectable politicians.”
Wike, however, urged his supporters and political allies in Rivers State not to allow internal disputes and communal disagreements to distract them from their political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
