The Abia State Police Command has arrested two men over the alleged murder of a young woman and the sale of her 11 month old baby in Aba.
The suspects, identified as 21 year old David, a commercial motorcyclist, and his 25 year old friend, Chimaobi, were reportedly arrested following an investigation into the incident.
According to the police account, David allegedly invited his girlfriend to a hotel in Aba under the pretext of spending time together. The woman reportedly arrived with her 11 month old child, who was not fathered by the suspect.
Investigators allege that the woman was drugged while at the hotel and subsequently died inside the room. The suspects reportedly took possession of her baby after the incident.
Police further alleged that the child was later handed over to a suspected middleman, identified as Chuka James, in exchange for ₦150,000. The money was allegedly shared equally between David and Chimaobi.
The incident reportedly came to light nearly two months later after the hotel management alerted the police. CCTV footage obtained during the investigation allegedly provided vital leads that assisted detectives in identifying and arresting the two suspects.
The alleged middleman, Chuka James, is currently at large, while the whereabouts of the 11 month old child remain unknown.
The police said investigation is ongoing, with efforts intensified to locate and rescue the child and apprehend the fleeing suspect.
The arrested suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The allegations against the suspects remain subject to investigation and judicial determination.
