Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has announced the arrest of the soldier who denigrated Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emphasizing that the soldier’s behavior does not align with the values of the Nigerian Army.

Addressing journalists during his visit to the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army in Enugu State, Lagbaja underscored that the soldier’s actions while violating traffic laws contradicted the principles of discipline the Army upholds and defied both the Nigerian constitution and Lagos State laws.

“I want to say the soldier that was apprehended by the governor of Lagos State, while plying on a one-way does not represent the Nigerian Army because in every respect it contravenes what we stand for which is discipline as an army and it contravenes the constitution and the laws of Lagos,” stated the Army Chief.

Lagbaja condemned the soldiers who took to social media to criticize the governor, highlighting that their behavior was not in line with the Army’s ethos.

He assured that investigations were ongoing and that appropriate actions would be taken against anyone found culpable.

“We are investigating every comic act that you have seen on social media; they are not personnel of the Nigerian Army. We have investigated that. From the mold of dressing of some of them, you will know that they are not personnel of the Nigerian Army,” he affirmed.

The Chief of Army Staff reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to discipline, emphasizing the issuance of directives to sensitize troops on adhering to community laws where they serve, emphasizing the importance of upholding rules and maintaining discipline within the ranks.
