Sa’adatu Ayuba, a housewife married for 27 years, has approached the Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court, seeking a divorce from Jalija, alleging impotence.
The petitioner, who married Jalija under Islamic law in 1997, shared her grievances, “since two years ago, I have been having misunderstandings with him. This is because he got a girlfriend outside our marriage.
“He has not been functioning as a man. I am tired of the situation (impotence) and attitude, and want a divorce in the interest of justice.”
Jalija, in his defense, denied the allegations, claiming, I married another wife and I am performing perfectly as a man. The lady I married has one child for me, we got married in her village.”
The petitioner contested this, insisting that the woman in question was his girlfriend, of which she was unaware.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Judge Malam Saminu Suleiman has given the couple one week to settle the matter amicably, adjourning the case until January 17 for feedback.
