The late former Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, who passed away at 67 in Germany on December 27, 2023, after battling prostate cancer, is slated to be laid to rest in his hometown of Owo, the headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of the state, on February 23, 2024, according to the family.
In a statement titled ‘Celebration of a remarkable life,’ issued by the deceased’s son, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu Jnr., and posted on the Facebook page of the former Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Richard Olatunde, the family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support received during the trying time.
The statement invited friends, associates, and well-wishers to participate in the burial program, spanning over a week in Ibadan, Akure, and Owo.
The program includes services of songs, commendation services, special court sessions, candlelight procession, and a world gyration by the Kegites Club, among other events.
The funeral service is scheduled to take place at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Owo, followed by interment on February 23, 2024.
The family acknowledged the support received from political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and various community groups during this challenging period, expressing deep respect and a sense of duty in extending the invitation for a befitting farewell to their late patriarch.
